I have configured elgg in centos cloud machine, here are the steps followed and it went like charm

1. Install Apache webserver:
sudo yum install httpd
sudo /etc/init.d/httpd start
2. Install MySQL database server:
sudo yum install mysql-server mysql
service httpd restart
service mysqld start
3. Install PHP:
sudo yum install php php-mysql php-gd php-xml php-xmlrpc php-json php-mbstring
service httpd restart
4. vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
# AllowOverride controls what directives may be placed in .htaccess files.

today i had so much of work, the first thing i do is login to skype and go ahead with work.skype usually occupies port no 80. i tried to start xampp apache service i noticed that its not starting at all.

xampp port check saves my life. i was checking what was the problem and the culprit was skype. skype and apache are figting each other for port no 80 :)

this may help somebody and saves their time.

Note:i did not tested rigorously but i think it works fine

find mysql bin directory under wamp, prompt command line to folder location.

in my case directory that i prompt my cmd is

c:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.0.45\bin

use command

mysqldump -u username -p password databasename > dumpfile location/drumpfile.sql

i found a patch which works fine for me for drupal 6.14 version. http://lug.wsu.edu/~ben/drupal_anonymous_contact_D6.patch.

Note: dont forget to change user profile view permissions for anonymous users otherwise you cannot see the functionality after you apply path :)
